we’ve been invited by our friend Dustin Leavitt, Professor of Creative Writing at Redlands University, to lecture about our use of the Holga as a creative and documentary tool, and how the rest of the photography world uses it, more specifically in the context of photo-journalism, for his Conflict Journalism class. it’ll be challenging and fun!

we are inviting you to a very special creative collaboration between eight talented friends and artists in el Barrio Viejo. please join us to enjoy a weekend of beautiful art, delicious food and good company. all eight of us will be showing our work in 4 different studios all within 3 blocks of each other here in el Barrio Viejo!

we would like this to be a chance to spend time with our friends, make new ones, and share our art. stop in and have a glass of wine or better yet, spend the afternoon and hang out with us.

our show is part of the *Tucson Open Studio* tour. there are 217 other studios all over T-town to visit, so make a day of it and support your local art freaks!

this sunday take an informal tour of the Arizona Biennial with us, Rosanna and Matt of fotovitamina, A.T. Willett, and Shannon Smith! coffee and cookies with us artists at 11.30am for museum members, and at noon the tour begins! we will all present our work for about 20 minutes each, sure there will be plenty of occasions for Q&A’s.

whew!!! we haven’t shown up in a looong while, haven’t we? we have been in the middle of the craziest move and remodel of our lives [so far] and we barely have had time to pursue our photographic dreams… BUT, here we go.

we have been curated into this edition of the prestigious Arizona Biennial, held at the Tucson Museum of Art, with our works from Japan, our series : “meiseki na yume” <lucid dream>. it is an installation of 9 color photographs, beautifully and richly printed on matte fiber, then mounted onto thick panels of luscious bamboo. it is a beauty for all to behold, and we say so with the pride of the maker, but we feel it is fair to say anybody with an eye will appreciate it.

we wanted to make this contribution our hommage to Japan, a country that deeply fascinates us and holds some of our dearest friends and inspirations. more on what moves this work a little later…

today final approval was given to Photographic Works, our trusty lab, and monday morning we install.

opening reception is June 24th, 6-8pm, at the Tucson Museum of Art. Hope you can make it!

hi y’all. in case it wasn’t enough what we have going on this end of April, we also are part of this fun shenanigan, at least present in work and spirit : the Curious Camera Show and Party! this time our lovely Holga Queen Michelle Bates is joining in the festivities – wow!

yippie! we made into the Phoenix Slideluck Potshow, April 30th, both of us. wish we could go, we’re just not sure we can. we had planned rosanna’s 40th birthday trip to Havasupai Falls right then… hmm… should i stay or should i go?

Our friend Michelle Bates wrote the book on plastic camera photography – literally. She is the author of Plastic Cameras: Toying with Creativity, a book in which both Matt and I are generously featured. This is your chance to learn from the “Holga Queen” herself! In the right hands these low-tech cameras provide the tool to create amazing images. This workshop is all about learning the tricks, tips and skills. Treat yourself to some fun – whether you’re experienced or just starting out – you deserve it.
